The Wave has washed ashore.
Everybody loves doing the wave, right? This is my interpretation of a classic automata mechanism that uses a series of eccentric circular cams offset from one another. You can find examples of caterpillars, snakes, worms, even dragons using this mechanism. I wanted to try something a bit different and went with a stadium wave. I thought this was a pretty original idea. I even did a little looking around to see if there was one out there already. At first I didn't see any but then I did come across a couple designs. Mine is the only multi row design I know of.
I kept it very basic without getting into a lot of detail, the idea of carving 15 individuals was daunting of a challenge. The simple block body design lends itself to dressing everyone in your favorite team colors and jerseys. At the end you'll see I picked the Detroit Lions. You might be wondering about the lone individual with the Steelers jersey. You know there's always one clown in the crowd, this one's mine....sorry Sly! Check it out here!
