Automata
What exactly is automata? I would describe it as a mechanical sculpture that utilizes gears, cranks, levers and other mechanical devices to provide movement that brings an item or scene to life. Power is usually human, electric or spring drive. Automata is plural for automaton, but I still get confused. Automata have been around for centuries, maybe even longer. Clock makers would build intricate autmata to show off their craftsmanship and drum up business. The current (last 30-40 years) have been less intricate and more humorous or fantastic. That's what appeals to me and what I try to accomplish with mine.
